Free QR code scanner: see what a code does before you open it
Upload a photo or screenshot, paste an image, or use your camera. The scanner shows exactly what the code holds, warns you about risky links, and never opens anything until you choose to.
Images are read in your browser and never uploaded.
The result appears here
You will see what the code holds, whether it is static or a link that may redirect, and anything worth checking before you open it.

Why check a QR code before you open it
A QR code is just text in a pattern, and you cannot tell by looking where it leads. Most codes are harmless, but a sticker placed over a real code can send you to a lookalike payment or login page. Reading the code first shows you the real address, so you can decide whether to trust it.
The scanner also tells you what kind of code it is. A static code stores everything in the pattern: a Wi-Fi password, a contact card, or a fixed link. A dynamic code holds a short link that redirects, so its destination can change, and it can stop working if the service behind it stops forwarding scans.
Everything happens in your browser. Your image is not uploaded anywhere.
How it works

Step 1 of 3
Add the code
Drop in a photo or screenshot, paste an image, or turn on your camera and point it at the code.
Step 2 of 3
Read the result
See the content, the type of code, and any warnings, such as a bare IP address or an unencrypted http link.
Step 3 of 3
Decide what to do
Copy the content, open the link only if you trust it, or make a trackable copy of the code you can edit later.
Questions
QR Code Scanner FAQ
- Is it safe to scan a QR code from an image here?
- Yes. The image is read in your browser and never uploaded, and nothing is opened until you click Open.
- Can I scan a QR code from a screenshot?
- Yes. Upload the screenshot or paste it with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V. The code needs to be reasonably sharp and fully visible.
- How do I know if a QR code is dynamic?
- If the code holds a short link that redirects, it is very likely dynamic, and its destination can change. Wi-Fi, contact, and plain text codes are static: the content is in the pattern itself.
- Why did my QR code stop working?
- Often the link inside it no longer forwards, for example after the service that made it stopped redirecting scans. Scan it here to see the link, then make a replacement that goes to the same place.
- Can I read a Wi-Fi password from a QR code?
- Yes. Wi-Fi codes store the network name and password, and the scanner shows them, with the password hidden until you reveal it.
