How it works

How to make a reddit qr code

  1. Enter a subreddit or paste a link

Type the subreddit name, with or without r/, to link the community. To link a post, comment, or profile, tap Share, then Copy link in Reddit and paste it in. The live preview updates as you type.

  2. Choose colors and settings

Open the Design tab to pick a color preset or your own colors, set error correction, and choose the PNG size. A built-in contrast check blocks downloads when the colors are too close to scan reliably.

  3. Test and download

Scan the preview with your phone to confirm it opens the right community or page, then download a PNG for screens or an SVG for print. The code is made right in your browser.

  4. Optional: make it a Smart QR code

If you want to point the code at a different thread later, or see how many people scan it, create a Smart QR code at /create-qr-code. You can change the destination after printing and see every scan. Free plan, no credit card.

Explained

What is a reddit qr code?

A Reddit QR code opens a Reddit community or page when it is scanned. Type a subreddit name, like r/yourcommunity, and the code stores reddit.com/r/yourcommunity; paste any reddit.com link instead, such as a post, a comment thread, or a user profile, and that exact link is kept. The phone's camera hands the link to the Reddit app if it is installed, or opens it in the browser if it is not.

The code on this page is static. The link is written into the pattern, so it never expires and has no scan limit, but it cannot be edited or counted after you download it. Subreddit names are fixed once a community is created, which makes a subreddit link a stable thing to print. Posts are less stable: they can be removed by the author or moderators, so a code that points at a single post can stop working. If you might want to send people somewhere else later, use a dynamic code.

Check the community's settings before you print. A private subreddit shows visitors a notice instead of its posts until a moderator approves them, and a restricted one lets people read but not post. Print the code dark on a light background with a clear margin, at least 2 cm (0.8 in) wide, and test-scan it with an iPhone and an Android, both with and without the Reddit app, before printing a batch.

Use cases

Where reddit qr codes work best

  • Meetups and community events

Put the subreddit code on name tags, table signs, or the welcome slide at a meetup so attendees can join the community that organized it and find the next event thread.

  • Game, hobby, and product communities

Add a code to game boxes, manuals, or product inserts that opens your official subreddit, where players and customers trade tips, report bugs, and find answers from each other.

  • Local and neighborhood subreddits

Post a code on community boards, coffee shop corkboards, or flyers to point neighbors to the local subreddit for recommendations, lost-and-found posts, and events.

  • Campus and club subreddits

Put the code on club fair tables, dorm posters, and orientation handouts so new students can find the school or club subreddit and ask questions before the semester starts.

  • AMA and announcement posts

Link a conference slide, poster, or newsletter to a specific Ask Me Anything or announcement thread so people can join the discussion while it is live.

  • Stickers and merch

A sticker or shirt with the community code turns fans into signposts: anyone who asks what it is can scan it and land in the subreddit.

Static or Smart

Static reddit qr code or Smart QR code?

What the free code on this page does, and what a QRelix Smart QR code adds.

  • A static Reddit code stores its link permanently. If the post it points to is removed, or you want to send people to a new thread, every printed copy still opens the old link.
  • Static codes record nothing, so you cannot tell how many people scanned a flyer or which event brought new members.
  • A Smart QR code from QRelix encodes a short QRelix link you can repoint at any time, logs each scan in an analytics dashboard, and lets you add your logo and dot styles.
  • The free plan includes unlimited Smart QR codes. Each code gets 20 scans a month and shows a brief QRelix screen before forwarding; Pro lifts both for $5.99 a month.

FAQ

Reddit QR Code questions

How do I make a QR code for a subreddit?
Type the subreddit name into the field above, for example r/yourcommunity or just yourcommunity, and the tool encodes reddit.com/r/yourcommunity. Scan the preview to check it, then download a PNG or SVG. It is free, needs no account, and the code is generated in your browser.
Can I make a QR code for a Reddit post or profile?
Yes. In Reddit, tap Share, then Copy link on the post, comment, or profile, and paste the reddit.com link into the field. The tool keeps the link exactly as you pasted it. Posts can be removed, so if the thread matters for a long print run, consider a Smart QR code you can repoint.
Does a Reddit QR code open the Reddit app?
On phones with Reddit installed, the operating system normally hands reddit.com links to the app, so the community or post opens there. Without the app, it opens on the Reddit website in the browser. Test both on an iPhone and an Android before you print.
Will the QR code work for a private subreddit?
The code will open the subreddit's address, but visitors who are not approved members see a private-community notice instead of the posts. If you are recruiting members, link a public or restricted community, or link a public post that explains how to request access.
Can I change where my Reddit QR code points after printing?
Not with a static code: the link is written into the pattern. A Smart QR code encodes a short QRelix link instead, and you can change where it forwards at any time while every printed copy keeps working. You can create one free at /create-qr-code.
Can I track how many people scan my Reddit QR code?
Not with the static code from this page. A Smart QR code from QRelix records each scan with time, device, browser, and approximate location, and the analytics dashboard is included on the free plan.
