How it works
How to make a threads qr code
Enter your Threads username
Type your @handle, with or without the @, or paste your profile link. The tool builds your profile link, threads.com/@yourusername, and encodes it.
Choose colors and settings
Open the Design tab to pick a color preset or your own brand colors, set error correction, and choose the PNG size. A built-in contrast check warns you if your colors are too close to scan reliably.
Test and download
Scan the live preview with your phone to confirm your profile opens, then download a PNG for screens or an SVG for print. The code is made right in your browser.
Optional: make it a Smart QR code
If your handle might change or you want to count scans, create a Smart QR code at /create-qr-code. You can repoint it after printing and see every scan. Free plan, no credit card.
Explained
What is a threads qr code?
A Threads QR code opens your Threads profile when it is scanned. You type your username, and the code stores your profile link, https://www.threads.com/@yourbusiness. Phones with the Threads app installed open the profile in the app; phones without it open the profile in the browser.
Your Threads username is the @handle on your Threads profile, and it matches your Instagram username, because Threads accounts are linked to Instagram. Type it with or without the @, or paste a threads.net or threads.com profile link and the tool picks out the username. That link also means one thing to watch: if you rename your Instagram account, your Threads handle changes with it.
The code is static, so it never expires and has no scan limit, but the handle is written into it. If the handle changes, printed codes stop reaching your profile. If your Threads profile is private, people who scan will see your profile but not your posts until you approve their follow. Print the code at least 2 cm (0.8 in) wide and test it with an iPhone and an Android before printing.
Use cases
Where threads qr codes work best
Shop counters and packaging
Small brands that post updates and conversations on Threads can add a code to receipts, bags, and inserts so customers follow along after the purchase.
Creator and artist merch
Writers, artists, and musicians can print the code on stickers, zines, and merch tags, giving fans a direct route to the account where you talk with them.
Talks and workshops
Put the code on your closing slide or handout so attendees can follow you and keep the conversation going after the session.
Business cards
If Threads is where you share your thinking, a code on your card points new contacts there in one scan, without spelling out a handle.
Cafes, salons, and studios
A small sign by the register or mirror invites regulars to follow for announcements, schedule changes, and behind-the-scenes posts.
Static or Smart
Static threads qr code or Smart QR code?
What the free code on this page does, and what a QRelix Smart QR code adds.
- A static Threads code stores your profile link permanently. If your handle changes, including through an Instagram rename, every printed code points at the old handle.
- Static codes record nothing: you cannot see how many people scanned, when, or which sign, card, or package brought them.
- A QRelix Smart QR code encodes a short QRelix link you can repoint at any time, logs each scan with time, device, browser, and approximate location, and lets you add your logo, dot shapes, and corner styles.
- The free plan includes unlimited Smart QR codes and the full analytics dashboard. Each free code gets 20 scans a month and shows a brief QRelix screen before forwarding; Pro lifts both for $5.99 a month.

FAQ
Threads QR Code questions
- How do I make a QR code for my Threads profile?
- Type your Threads username into the field above, with or without the @, and download the code as a PNG or SVG. The tool builds your profile link, threads.com/@yourusername, and encodes it in your browser. There is no account to create. For scan counts or an editable link, create a Smart QR code at /create-qr-code.
- Is my Threads username the same as my Instagram username?
- Yes. Threads profiles are linked to Instagram accounts and use the same username. That is convenient, but it also means renaming your Instagram account changes your Threads handle, which breaks any printed static code that uses the old one.
- Does a Threads QR code open the app?
- Yes, when the Threads app is installed. The code stores a standard Threads profile link, which iPhone and Android hand to the app. Without the app, the profile opens in the mobile browser. The built-in camera reads the code, so no scanner app is needed.
- Does it matter if I paste a threads.net or threads.com link?
- No. The tool reads the username from either address and builds a threads.com profile link, so the code opens the same profile either way.
- Can I use one QR code for both Instagram and Threads?
- A static code opens one link. You can make a separate code with the Instagram QR code generator, or create a Smart QR code at /create-qr-code that points at a page listing all your profiles, which you can update later without reprinting.
- Will the code work if my Threads profile is private?
- It opens your profile, but people only see your posts after you approve their follow request. For a business, a public profile works better with printed codes. Test-scan from a phone that is not logged in to your account to see what visitors get.
