How it works

How to make a youtube qr code

  1. Paste a video or channel link

Copy the link from the Share button under a video, or the address of your channel page, and paste it in. Short youtu.be and Shorts links are converted to a standard video link.

  2. Choose colors and settings

Open the Design tab to pick a color preset or your own brand colors, set error correction, and choose the PNG size. A built-in contrast check warns you if your colors are too close to scan reliably.

  3. Test and download

Scan the live preview with your phone to confirm the right video or channel opens, then download a PNG for screens or an SVG for print. The code is made right in your browser.

  4. Optional: make it a Smart QR code

If you might swap the video later or want to count scans, create a Smart QR code at /create-qr-code. You can point the printed code at a new video at any time and see every scan. Free plan, no credit card.

Explained

What is a youtube qr code?

A YouTube QR code opens a video or a channel when it is scanned. Paste a video link and the code opens that video; paste a channel link, such as https://www.youtube.com/@yourchannel, and it opens the channel page. The code stores a standard youtube.com link, so phones with the YouTube app open it in the app, and phones without it play the video in the browser.

To get a video link, tap Share under the video and copy the link. Short youtu.be links, Shorts links, and live stream links all work: the tool reads the video ID and builds a standard watch link. For a channel, copy the address of your channel page, which usually ends in your @handle. If you expect to change your handle, you can paste the channel URL that contains your channel ID instead, since that address stays the same when the handle changes.

The code on this page is static, so it never expires and has no scan limit, but the link is fixed once you print it. If you delete or make the video private, or swap it for a newer version, the printed code still points at the old one. For packaging and manuals that stay in circulation for years, that matters. Print the code at least 2 cm (0.8 in) wide with a clear margin, and test it on an iPhone and an Android before printing.

Use cases

Where youtube qr codes work best

  • Product packaging and manuals

Link the box or the quick-start card to a setup or assembly video. A short video often answers what a page of instructions cannot. Because packaging stays around for years, consider a Smart QR code so you can point it at an updated video later.

  • Classrooms and training

Put a code on a worksheet, slide, or lab station that opens the lesson video. Students reach the right video in one scan instead of searching for a title or typing a long link.

  • Real estate signs and flyers

Link a yard sign or listing flyer to a video walkthrough of the property. Buyers driving by can take the tour from the curb and call you if they like what they see.

  • Gig posters and merch

Musicians can link posters, stickers, and merch tags to the latest music video or the channel itself, so fans who discover you offline can subscribe on the spot.

  • Recipes, menus, and how-to cards

Cooking schools, food brands, and restaurants can link a recipe card or menu item to a short video showing how it is made.

  • Museum and gallery labels

Add a code beside an exhibit that opens an artist interview or a short explainer, giving visitors more depth without crowding the wall label.

Static or Smart

Static youtube qr code or Smart QR code?

What the free code on this page does, and what a QRelix Smart QR code adds.

  • A static YouTube code stores the video or channel link itself, so it never expires, but if the video is replaced, removed, or made private, every printed copy points at the old link.
  • Static codes record nothing. You cannot see how many people scanned, when, or on what device, and YouTube's own reports cannot tell a scan from any other visit.
  • A QRelix Smart QR code encodes a short QRelix link you can repoint to a new video at any time, logs each scan with time, device, browser, and approximate location, and lets you add your logo, dot shapes, and corner styles.
  • The free plan includes unlimited Smart QR codes and the full analytics dashboard. Each free code gets 20 scans a month and shows a brief QRelix screen before forwarding; Pro lifts both for $5.99 a month.

FAQ

YouTube QR Code questions

How do I make a QR code for a YouTube video?
Tap Share under the video, copy the link, paste it into the field above, and download the code as a PNG or SVG. The tool reads the video ID from youtu.be, Shorts, and regular watch links and builds a standard video link. There is no account to create. If you might replace the video later, create a Smart QR code at /create-qr-code instead.
Can I make a QR code for my YouTube channel?
Yes. Paste your channel link, for example https://www.youtube.com/@yourchannel, and the code opens your channel page, where people can subscribe. You can find the link by opening your channel and copying the address, or from the share option on the channel page.
Does a YouTube QR code open the app?
Yes, on phones with the YouTube app installed. The code stores a standard youtube.com link, and iPhone and Android hand those links to the app. On a phone without the app, the video or channel opens in the browser. The built-in camera reads the code, so no scanner app is needed.
Can I make the video start at a specific time?
The static code from this page encodes the video itself and starts it from the beginning. If you need a code that opens at a specific moment, copy the time-stamped link from YouTube's share option and use it as a plain link instead: the free URL QR code generator keeps the start time, and so does a Smart QR code made with the URL type at /create-qr-code, which you can also change later.
What happens if I change my YouTube handle?
A printed code that stores your old @handle link will no longer point at your channel, and someone else may eventually claim that handle. To avoid this, paste your channel URL that contains the channel ID, which does not change when you rename the handle, or use a Smart QR code you can redirect.
Will an unlisted or private video work?
Unlisted videos work: anyone with the link can watch, so a QR code is a common way to share them with a specific audience, like a class or customers who bought a product. Private videos only play for accounts you have invited, so most people who scan will see an error. Test-scan from a phone that is not signed in to your account.
Can I track how many people scan my YouTube QR code?
Not with the static code: the phone goes straight to YouTube, and YouTube counts it as an ordinary view. A QRelix Smart QR code records each scan with time, device, browser, and approximate location, so you can see which poster or package sends viewers. The analytics dashboard is included on the free plan.
